Motto: When someone shows you the stars…Don’t look at his finger

True leaders do not order others, they influence and guide and Vaso Panagiotopoulou, Head of Housekeeping Department, is a great example of leadership in a big organization.

Vaso has been with Aldemar Resorts for 22 years, from the very beginning of o Aldemar Olympian Village Resort in the West Peloponnese. She entered the company as maid and she was promoted to Housekeeping assistant within a few weeks! Her effective leadership skills were immediately distinguished and by the end of her first season at Aldemar Olympian Village she was informed that she was taking over as Head of the Housekeeping Department.

Along with her 22 years-and-counting journey, Vaso has become a maestro on finding the most effective and efficient way to deliver information, facilitate change and develop employees, but she also takes personal growth seriously.

  • How does it feel to be part of the Aldemar Resorts’ team?

It may sound excessive, but from the beginning I felt the hotel like home and Aldemar as a big family. So, as a member of Aldemar, I have all these feelings that someone has when is close to beloved people: I feel safe, protected and free to unfold my skills. All these make me even more creative, flexible and above all, give me the energy and the courage to act in a good and fair to everyone, trying to do the best for my “family”.

  • Which part of your work do you enjoy the most?

What I enjoy the most is the communication. I believe there is a powerful bond in our job. Through communication, we build strong interdependent environments together with my colleagues, staff and supervisors. After a certain point and when you have established such a communication, everything runs smoothly. On the other side, when you communicate with guests, you have the opportunity to hear their way of thinking or concerns. This gives you the chance to make up in case needed  and change an initial negative opinion to a positive one. I appreciate having this possibility and I see it as a daily gift to communicate with different people. For example, it is impressive when I explain to the staff a heavy schedule and I can discern in their eyes the confirmation that they will succeed, without even talking.

  • What’s a work related story which is engraved in your memory and you will always remember?

It’s not just a single story…there are so many unforgettable moments. Every day I receive through the eyes of my colleagues, their respect and appreciation and for me this is priceless. I always remember and keep not only in my memory but also in my heart these moments
