Swim the crystal clear waters

Along the coastal road leading to the peninsula you will find small coves that are hidden on the beaches, " harbors " which have umbrellas and chairs. " Stalis" beach, with sand and seabed gradually deepened, is ideal for children. The beach has lifeguards , beach umbrellas / chairs , water sports and there are restaurants and cafes. Along the longest coastline on the Gouves, wonderful beaches for every desire : rocky areas that offer greater privacy , or long sandy beaches that offer all the comforts of sun loungers and parasols to calm water through artificial breakwaters built in the area.

KOULES in Heraklion

Koules Venetian fortress dominates the entrance to the Venetian port of Heraklion. The Venetians called it "sea fortress"
(Castello Mare or Rocca Mare), but today it is marked for its Turkish name , Koules, corruption Su Kulesi ( water tower ) . This is one of the most famous and beloved monuments, and the symbol of Heraklion.
Today Fortress Koules, proudly looking over the sea of Crete , reminds us of the glory of the Venetian Chandax. It does not rest that Cretan legend rebels were badly tortured in her moist , dark rooms .

Did you know that ...

... Building ... Koules, craftsmen used stones from Aldemar Knossos Royal Cape below Chappel of St. George.
